EC in History

The oldest building on campus is the Old Observatory, nestled between Landrum Bolling Center and Carpenter Hall. While it is in the center of a bustling area on campus today, when it was constructed in 1861, it was far away from the action. The first observatory on a college campus in Indiana, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Fifty-seven liberal arts college presidents, including EC's Doug Bennett, have signed an open letter on open access.

Women's Soccer Team Advances to Conference Championship

Earlham's women's soccer team has advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference championship match on Saturday, November 7. Joy Doucette's goal was decisive in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Denison on Tuesday night in Granville, Ohio.

WWII Cargo Ship Named for Earlham College to be Scrapped; Environmental Concerns Cited

A World War II freighter named for Earlham College, the S.S. Earlham Victory, is headed for the scrap yard. The ship is one of the first to be recycled in an Obama Administration effort to clean up the fouled waters where obsolete ships have been stored in "ghost fleets" for decades.

EC Bonner Scholar Studies the Efficiency of City Trash Routes

Bonner Scholar Gustavo Espinoza has carried out an extensive year-long efficiency study of the routes driven by Richmond's sanitation trucks. Espinoza and fellow Bonner Katie Marshall hope the project will save the city money through wasting less fuel and making more efficient stops.
