EC in History

The oldest building on campus is the Old Observatory, nestled between Landrum Bolling Center and Carpenter Hall. While it is in the center of a bustling area on campus today, when it was constructed in 1861, it was far away from the action. The first observatory on a college campus in Indiana, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

EC Bonner Scholar Studies the Efficiency of City Trash Routes

Bonner Scholar Gustavo Espinoza has carried out an extensive year-long efficiency study of the routes driven by Richmond's sanitation trucks. Espinoza and fellow Bonner Katie Marshall hope the project will save the city money through wasting less fuel and making more efficient stops.

Now that the outbreak of novel A H1N1 influenza has reached 46 states, President Obama has declared the virus a national emergency, but that does not mean that communities are any closer to having vaccine available. Director of Health Services Mary Ann Stienbarger urges students, faculty, staff and community members to be vigilant in promoting good health and hygiene, and stresses the importance of practicing good cough and sneeze etiquette.

Earlham Gets Indiana Specialty License Plate

Hoosier motorists can show their Quaker spirit on their cars thanks to a new specialty license plate available in January 2010. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the plates go to the Earlham Fund. The plate is made possible thanks to State Rep. Greg Porter '78 who worked tirelessly to make the Earlham plate a reality.
